Alexandra Lerman is a New York based filmmaker and multimedia producer. She holds a BFA from Cooper Union School of Art in New York and is an MFA candidate at Columbia School of Art.
At the moment Alexandra is working on Perpetual Peace Project, a documentary featuring contemporary philosophers and diplomats discussing Immanuel Kant’s foundational essay Perpetual Peace: A Philosophical Sketch (1795). The project is being produced together with Laura Hanna and Aaron Levy.
In 2007 together with a multimedia consulting firm ScribeLabs Alexandra created and developed SMAC: ScribeMedia Arts & Culture, a Web TV series on contemporary art and culture. The videos have been routinely picked up by publications ranging from Art Forum to Fast Company to Engaget. Each video is viewed on average 20,000 times. SMAC was a 2009 Webby Awards honoree.
Before producing SMAC, she worked on three feature length documentaries as an associate producer: The Ballad of Greenwich Village – a documentary by Karen Kramer about the revolutionary history of the famous New York neighborhood, Déjà Vu Vietnam – a film by Thi Thanh Nga exploring the parallels of the war in Vietnam and the war in Iraq and Russia! The Drama of Art in 12 Episodes – a TV film by Nina Zaretskaya about the retrospective of Russian art at the Guggenheim Museum.
Alexandra’s work has been shown in New York at the Chelsea Art Museum, Artists Space, Janos Gat Gallery and Anthology Film Archives and at Hermitage Museum in St-Petersburg, Russia.
Alexandra’s latest project is a documentary about architecture of Central Asia produced with Kyong Park. The project premiered at the exhibition _New Silk Roads_ at MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y León in July 2009 curated by Octavio Zaya.
