Situation II. Wall Street
(2009, HD video, 10 mins)
This video examines the random, natural motion of the passerby on the street and is a continuation of a series started by Her Family and Other Animals.
Shot on Wall Street, it takes the steps of Federal Hall and the statue of George Washington as a stage on which
an embedded actor interacts with three groups of people: the construction workers in the foreground,
the bankers in the middle and the tourists on the steps in the back taking pictures with America’s first president.
A Man is Not a Piece of Fruit!
(2008, HD video, Black and White, 3 mins)
Shot on Wall street, this video starts the performance artist Oleg Soulimenko. The video is a trailer for a “non-existent” Film Noir.
Her Family and Other Animals
(2006, HD video, 3 mins)
My longstanding interest in dance and the work of postmodernist choreographers such as Yvonne Rainer has led me to explore the choreography of the everyday.
Shot in Balaklava, Crimea, this video both documents and fictionalizes the life of a rural fisherman’s family and their animals. At the same time the editing highlights bizarre moments and creates a narrative.
Life Forms
(2003, SD video, 5 mins)
With a continued interest and appreciation for both video and dance, I worked on a collaboration with the British choreographer Lizzy Le Quesne called Life Forms. I continuously filmed her dancers as they rehearsed one piece and later – through editing – I created a new work. It consists of a three-part split screen that combines simultaneous close ups and wide shots into one experience.
Boy. Girl. City.
(2004, SD video, 5 mins)
Collaboration with Darya Belova.
Music by Alexei Levin
An ode to white nights in Saint Petersburg this video is a story of two young people in love trying to meet told through text messages on their cell phones. A visual poem about their miscommunication, hopes and fears.
